WWII US Combat Engineer Officer Tunic, Named and Some Research-This tunic belonged to 1st Lieutenant Ralph Hurlbutt of IL who was commander of an engineering unit. He fought in Normandy and other areas of France and was seriously wounded while his unit (167th Engineer Combat Battalion) was constructing a bridge at Fort sur Seille, France on November 10, 1944. He received the Purple Heart of course, as well as the EAME with two stars, the American Theater badge and the WWII Victory medal. The jacket is in great condition, produced in a dark olive drab elastique wool that is very clean. There are four pockets and a four-button closure. The upper three buttons are gilt finished with the army logo and the bottom button is bakelite. The breast pockets are pleated with scalloped flaps while the hip pockets are plain with straight flaps.  There is a belt of the same material. The lapels have the Combat Engineer insignia plus the US insignia. The lower sleeves have a bronze tresse. The interior is fully lined in dark green rayon. It is very clean. There is a pocket on the right side with a tailor tag on the outside. The tailor is the Kahnj Tailoring Co of Indianapolis. Inside is a tag that identifies the owner, Ralph Hurlbutt. It is a large size, as the lieutenant was almost 6’ tall. Excellent and interesting!
