German WWII Named Mess Kit-This is a very interesting mess kit. This is produced in aluminum with a black finish which means this could possibly be used by the SS, as most mess kits have an army green combat finish. The paint on this kit remains approx. 40% intact. There is a name scratched into the top, and there is a set of “HH” initials scratched into the front. The hinge is marked and dated “FW8N39”. There are some dings and scuffs. The bracket that holds the lid on is loose. The lid does not appear to be original to the piece, but because it won’t snap closed correctly, it makes me wonder if this mess kit was put together on the field a long time ago. This could be why the individual put his name all over it. Anyway, this is speculation, but the lid does not snap onto the kit, because the clip just doesn’t fit right. This is still an interesting piece, and in good condition.
