German WWI 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class-Take a second look at this award. This is actually in very good condition. The black finish on the iron core is intact and excellent. The silver frame has toned to a dark gray color that complements the black of the cross. This is marked on the suspension ring with “KO” for the Royal Mint in Berlin. The long portion of ribbon has some issues, the white has lifted, giving the ribbon a spotty look. But this is original to the piece as far as we know. This medal is made by a maker that is getting harder to find. A scarce piece in very good condition.
History: The German "Iron Cross of 1914" was a military decoration awarded to soldiers during World War I, originally established by King Frederick William III of Prussia in 1813 as a recognition for bravery in battle.
