WWII US 5th Infantry Division Private Purchase “Ike” Jacket-This interesting, private purchase example is produced in dark olive drab wool that is in great condition. It has a zippered closure (works) with two snap buttons as well. The left side still has the button holes for the standard set up, pretty neat. There are pleated breast pockets with scalloped flaps. The left sleeve has a 5th Infantry “Red Diamond” (or Red Devil) sleeve patch plus a rank patch for corporal. The corporal patch is also seen on the right sleeve. The interior is fully lined in olive drab cotton blend material that is clean and has only minor wear. There is a pocket on each side. The left side has a piece of paper inside with script that reads “Gasthaus Goss at Duerling, William E. Gillie dob 31.12.1926, Iren/MO”. There is a laundry number stamped in the neck area that reads “D9745”. The right pocket has a tailor tag dated June 9, 1944 and indicating that the tailor was Solomon, Goldstein and Portnoy and that the size is a 38 L. There is a small size tag in the neck with the same size listed. Great condition!
