WWII German Luftwaffe Model 1935 Double Decal Helmet-This is a very interesting example. First, the basics. It has a smoothly applied blue grey finish that remains 75% intact. The left side has a nicely toned eagle decal that is 90% intact. The right side has a tri color shield that remains 85% intact and has minor toning as well. The interior features a size stamped 59 leather liner that has minor wear and discoloration. There is a zinc liner band that is maker marked, dated and size stamped. So here is where it gets interesting. The liner band is dated 1941. Taking everything I can see into account, it sure looks to me like it is the original liner and liner band. We all know that SE made M35’s well into 1940 so perhaps this one was put together very late. I believe it is as originally assembled! The side of the interior is stamped SE 66 indicating production by Sachsische Emaillerwerke in the size of 66. The lot number is very hard to read, it looks to end in 77. What convinces me even more that this is all original is the fact that the brown leather chinstrap, which matches the condition of the helmet perfectly, is also dated 1941. It does have a small tear right at the buckle so it is a bit fragile. A great piece and an interesting one at that!
