WWI Propaganda Flyer-This measures 12 ½” by 9 ¾” and is folded down the center. It is dated September 9, 1914. The script reads, in French, “Headquarters of the German Armies, Maubeuge is taken, 40,000 prisoners, 400 pieces of artillery, printed and posted in Saint Die by order of the German Military Authority, September 9, 1914.” Maubeuge is on the French/Belgian border. There is a large fortress that was constructed after the War of 1870 that was besieged in WWI by the German Empire. The town suffered heavy damage during bombing raids in WWII and the when the US 1st Infantry Division came through on its way to Belgium. An interesting item!
