German WWII Police Bayonet by Eickhorn-This is a special example. After the Weimar period the majority of these police bayonets were sent back to the armorers. The new regulations required that they be shortened, and have their clamshell removed. This is one of those pieces. The nickel silver fittings are excellent. The details on the birds’ head pommel are excellent. The stag grip is also excellent. Take a look at the photos, you can see the hole just above the embellished crossguard. This hole is where the clamshell was located before it was removed. This blade measures 13 inches (33.02cm) in length. The crossguard is nicely marked on the reverse with PBd145. When I looked up this number I believe it coordinates to the Brandenburg a.d. Havel Police School. The reverse of the top fitting on the scabbard has this same matching number. The brown leather scabbard with nickel silver fittings is excellent. The leather shows the usual bumps and bruises, but really is in great shape. The fittings are also very good. The bottom fitting is slightly loose, but the ball at the tip is undented and in great shape. The blade is excellent, with the early Eickhorn squirrel logo in place under the crossguard. This comes with its original brown leather frog. This is very nicely marked and dated 1935. This is a great historical item and is a handsome piece to boot. A special offering.
