German WWII Municipal Police Bayonet- This is a handsome example of a municipal police bayonet. This has a very ornate early nickel silver plated hilt and both the eagle head and the crossguard have beautiful detailing. The finish on the hilt and crossguard remains approx. 90%. The crossguard is not marked. The stag grip plates are in excellent condition as is the bright aluminum police grip eagle. The black municipal leather scabbard body is sound, as there are some moderate dents. The black leather shows some scuffing and wear, but still retains the majority of its dark black leather cover. The nickel-silver based, plated scalloped scabbard fittings have taken on a very nice tone from age but there are marks on the fittings, as though someone used this as a hammer at some point. Please be sure to look closely at the photos. The staples are in place. The reverse of the scabbard throat fitting has the numbers, “261.” The scabbard throat snugly fits the brass-based hilt. The blade measures 13 inches long when not in the scabbard and 18 ½ inches in the scabbard. The blade is in good condition, but does show some spots of discoloration. The Weyersberg logo is very prominent on the reverse of the blade. The numbers on both the scabbard and the crossguard are good but be aware that they do not match. Overall, good condition.
