German WWII 98K Combat Bayonet by Coppel-This is a late model bayonet made by Coppel (who later became Alcoso). This example is not matched. The hilt has lost all of its original finish and has turned a nice dark gray color which is quite dark, in fact it almost matches the color of the black bakelite notched grip plates. At a quick look they almost appear to be just one color. The grip plates are in good condition, though there is some scuffing and one chip on the reverse near the lower rivet. The rivets in the handle have toned to the same color as the hilt and crossguard giving this a great look. The mortise button works as intended. The scabbard finish is mostly missing and has toned to the same nice gray color as the fittings. There are no markings on the scabbard. There are waffenamts all over the place on this dagger though. The blade looks good, with most of its original bluing in place. The blade does show some slight sharpening, but this is a good blade. It is marked under the cross guard with the date of 44 and the code “fnj” for the maker Coppel. The other side of the blade shows the number 7865/1. Overall, in good condition.
