WWII German Tank Destruction Badge in Silver with Provenance-This item belonged to Hauptmann Hans Augustin, recipient of the German Cross in Gold, the Close Combat Clasp in Silver and holder of several Tank Destruction Badges in silver. He commanded 14./Gren.Rgt.253 which was part of 34 Infanterie-Division. Hauptmann Augustin defended a bridge of the Dnepr river with two Assault Guns of 3./Pz.Jäg.Abt.34 allowing the XXIV Korps to cross the river. This avoided the destruction of 4 Wehrmacht divisions. His commander, Oberst Ferndinad Hippel (commander of 34.Inf.Div.) was awarded the Knight's Cross on the same day: 22.10.1943. This tank destruction badge has some wear, discoloration and verdigris. The backing is faded black badge cloth. Good condition overall!
