WWII German Spange to the Iron Cross 1st Class-The 1st Class Spange was awarded to a WWI winner (of the Imperial version of the Iron Cross First Class) for a subsequent award of the Iron Cross 1st Class during WWII (i.e. post-1939), and was a pin back. This is a very late war example in what I believe is zinc. There is some wear and the finish is mostly missing. The die flaws seen on badges by this maker are present (3 and 9 in the date). There is a block hinge with tombak needle pin and variant tombak round wire catch. It appears to have been repaired or a replacement. The reverse is marked "L/11" indicating production by Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid. Sound and a bargain!
