WWII German Luftwaffe LKpW101 Leather Flying Helmet, Early Date Example Complete with all Avionics -A near excellent example of the Luftwaffe cold weather flying helmet in outstanding condition with all the key features: the dark brown leather shell; ear phones with their dark brown, smooth leather covers, securing straps, buckles and fittings, hooks and the elasticized pullout straps beneath the earphone covers. At the bottom rear is the upside down, brown leather “Y” tab, the arms of which extend into neck straps, bearing the dark reddish-brown bakelite covered larynx (Mi 4a) microphones (marked with the Luftwaffe control number “Fl. 26779-1”). The avionics cord, with its four-prong end plug, exits the helmet above the microphone straps. The plug is excellent, with the black bakelite plug being marked “BLKvFl27560”. The cord, however, looks as if it was exposed to heat and the cover is damaged/partially intact. The helmet interior is fully lined in white fleece; the oval earphones are fleece as well and excellent. The translucent plastic earphone covers (beneath the fleece) are marked: “Ln 26602”. There is a nomenclature tag at the rear of the helmet nicely marked with the Baumuster (Model type) LKpW101, and the reddish-pink ink Luftwaffe acceptance stamp. Also seen is the date "Nov. 1939", super early. The manufacturer is noted as: “Deutsche Telephonewerke und Kabelindustrie A.G.” with the size given as 58. A near excellent example overall!
