Third Reich SS SD Model 1934 Edelstahl Double Decal Helmet-This one has quite a story! It was literally saved from the trash heap. It has a hand written poem in pencil in the rear skirt. This was done back in the day by the owner. When was the last time you saw something like that?!? It reads “O Stahlhelm, dust du mei, köppache schütze ich trag dich Lieber wie meine mütze”. The basic translation is "Oh steel helmet would you please protect my head, I prefer to wear you instead of my cap". This is an interesting notation from the original owner. The apple green finish is 85% or more intact with a few very small scuffs only. The SS decal is made by Pocher. It checks in very nicely at 90% with minor toning. The party shield is 85% intact. The size stamped 57 liner is in fine condition, being produced in brown leather that is still very soft. There is minor wear and discoloration from use. The drawstring is torn but still mostly there. The liner band and cork buffers are fine. The owner also wrote his name on the liner, it is “Kink, Emil” (research project!). The shell is a size 64. It is stamped “Edelstahl” on the skirt. The original thick, wide leather chinstrap is excellent. This has a snap clip on one side. A great helmet with a great story!
