WWII German SCARCE Double Engraved Army Officer’s Dagger, Unmarked-Needless to say, double engraved Army Officer Daggers are in GREAT demand on today’s market, especially one of this caliber! The fittings throughout have been cleaned since the war and are just now taking on a very nice new patina. The silver plating to the hilt and scabbard grades 100%! The pommel is the 12-leaf style Type A exhibiting outstanding detail and workmanship throughout (Volume I, page 114, type A). The edge is crisp while the very top displays a few minor taps. The grip is awesome, having a beautiful orange color while exhibiting NO wear/age. It is the type B-gp having the thicker segments (Volume I, page 12, middle). The crossguard is the correct Generic Type A style displaying just the slightest signs of age, grading near mint (Volume I, page 78). The details to the eagle are outstanding! Gorgeous hilt here! The double engraved blade remains mirror bright with 100% background frosting. NONE finer! The edges are crisp while the tip displays a very, very minor nip. Hardly worth mentioning! Additionally, there are a few minor in and out marks to the lower portion of the blade, in addition to a few scratches to both lower sides. Overly critical! The blade is the correct style having no maker featuring the dribble etching. The etching begins on each side of the blade nearest the tang with the double line separating the etching from the ricasso (Volume I, page 134, right). The obverse side features an open-winged, art deco eagle clutching a wreathed swastika with a plain surfaced ring around the swastika flanked by a three-leafed oak branch sprigs under each wing. The Army style eagle has the forty-five degree angle and straight-lined wing tips (Volume I, page 132). The reverse side is adorned with beautiful floral scenes. The reverse ricasso area is correctly VOID of any maker’s mark. The scabbard is totally straight throughout having a matching patina to the hilt. It is a Generic style with the thinner scabbard throat that is retained by a reverse, centered-positioned headless and flush mounted screw that is unturned (Volume I, page 120). The bands are highly detailed reflecting hand workmanship to the veining. A CHOICE piece for the connoisseur of edged blades! Near mint.
