Model 1916 Berndorfer German Police Double Decal Transitional Helmet-Incredibly rare! That's a mouthful but once you see this helmet you will understand. It is directly from the prestigious collection of Doug Buhler in Canada. The shell and liner are the M-16 Austrian pattern produced by the firm of Berndorfer. The classic bear motto is seen in the rear of the size 64 marked shell. It was a special helmet to begin with as it was originally issued to the Austrian rural police in WWI and had the flaming ball insignia on the front left side. You can still see the two holes between the rivet and the vent slot. Then it was reissued to the new bosses and completely refurbished with smooth, light gray paint and police decals. These are in impeccable condition remaining virtually fully intact. The paint is also as close to 100% intact as it gets. The size 57 liner retains the three light brown leather pads and cushions with the original drawstring. This museum quality example is complete with a near perfect brown leather chinstrap. There is not a better example on earth!
