MEGA SCARCE!!! German Waffen SS Model 1916 Helmet with Mirror Runic Decal- This is one of only two known examples in the world of this type! It is extensively published on page 46 of the book SS Helmets the History, Use and Decoration of the Helmets of the Black Corps by Michael D. Beaver with Kelly Hicks. It features a dull green finish that remains 98% intact. There is a possibility that it was painted black at one time. The right side, as worn, features a mirror or backward rune. The reason for this is not clear, but possible attributed to a double rune application where both sets of runes faced forward. It is also possible that it was a simple printing error. Experts agree that this decal is Austrian made. The left side features a variant party shield which is rather oblong and remains 95% intact. The helmet is an Austrian produced shell. The interior features a 10 tongue leather liner with perforated forehead. There is a drawstring and a dome pad. The cork liner buffers are in place. The side of the interior is stamped with the letters "EB" and the back of the skirt has the ink stamped liner size 58 along with the initials "HW." This example also includes a brown leather chinstrap. A museum quality helmet!
