WWII German Medal Grouping and Documents for Luftwaffe NCO Fritz Jahreis- The medals consist of an early war air gunner’s wireless operator’s badge by Deumer. The badge itself retains 50% of the original silver wash to the obverse and reverse. The eagle has beautiful detailing and burnished finish. Maker marked on reverse. Pin intact. The second medal is Jahreis’s iron cross second class. Along with the document for his air gunner’s badge, which is dated September 9th, 1943, we also have two other paper documents, one of which is a leave pass. What is interesting about this is that this air gunner’s plane made a forced landing in Spain, which was a neutral country, in 1944. This is a very unusual happening, and from what I can make out, he was allowed to travel from Paris to Madrid and then Stuttgart in September of 1944. The grouping also includes his ID dated the 15th of June, 1944, which would have been D-day plus 9 and was issued to him from a field post in Paris. Very intriguing group and will make for a nice display. Overall near excellent.
