Interesting WWII German Luftwaffe Model 1943 Field Cap for an Officer- This example is produced in Luftwaffe blue/grey wool that has minor discoloration and wear only. This is an officer "upgrade" with the (most likely field done) hand applied silver bullion piping around the top panel. The insignia features a machine embroidered, silvery gray over blue gray eagle and a machine woven cockade. Close scrutiny reveals that the eagle is hand applied in a slightly crude fashion. It is also applied slightly over the cockade which isn't uncommon. The flaps are connected at the front by a single blue/grey finished bakelite button. The bill shows the commonly found “folds” in the inner material, giving it a lumpy feel and appearance. The interior shows moderate discoloration from use. It is fully lined in light grey rayon. It is a size 57. A sound, representative example of the more desirable one button style!
