German WWII Early DLV/Luftwaffe Dagger by Braun- This is a very rare piece missing from most dagger collections and has some very unique characteristics. Early production with solid nickel fittings throughout including the chain. This measures approximately 18 ½ inches long. The pommel has the sun wheel swastika made of brass and has a screw-in set up extending from the top of the pommel cap. The blue Moroccan leather handle has brass twisted wire grip wrap. It is in excellent condition. The solid nickel cross guards also have that sun wheel found on most 1st model Luftwaffe daggers. The blue Moroccan leather on the scabbard is also very nice. There is one indentation just below the center band which you can see in the photos. The scabbard fittings are riveted to the body of the scabbard and have the number “5” under each of the rivets. The bottom scabbard fitting has some slight dents but matches the overall condition of this example. As I indicated, the chain is solid nickel and in excellent condition. The blade will rate very good with some lifting to the plating on the blade. This has resulted in some dark spots. The blade is marked on the reverse “Adolf Braun Berlin” which is one of the few makers contracted to produce this very early glider’s edged accessory. Overall, strong, very good condition associated with a rare dagger and priced right!
