German WWI Navy Officer’s Sword by E & F Horster- Spectacular example with solid brass fittings throughout. This has the folding guard with a fouled anchor motif. The white celluloid grip with triple brass wire is flawless. The detailing on the hilt is a sight to behold. The lion sports the red and green glass eyes indicating the fore and aft of the ship. The hilt, as well as the upper brass scabbard fitting, is naval unit marked. It is stamped “N176.” We have not attempted to research this. The same number appeared under the locking mechanism for the scabbard and the hilt. The black leather scabbard with solid brass fittings is in remarkable condition. Considering the vintage with minor scuffing hardly worthy of even mentioning, the triple engraved blade is full mint with deep engraving with naval motif including ships, fouled anchor, and other nautical symbols. The white felt buffer under the cross guard is in place. These are generally attributed to the Weimar period, but certainly carried during the 1933/1945 time period. Overall strong/excellent.
