WWII German Army Officer Specially Constructed Model 1943 Field Cap- This Veteran-purchased cap was originally a Model 1931 Dutch Field Cap and has been expertly retailored. Thank you to Frederik for pointing this out, as it even makes it more intriguing! It was also an “Other Ranks” example which has been “wartime” upgraded to an Officer cap with the addition of a silver mesh piping around the top. It is produced in a quality, field grey wool which is excellent with just minor wear and discoloration from use. This example is a real variant with a solid, non-buttoned flap stitched over the bill. The hand applied, machine woven insignia consists of a grey eagle over green and a red/white/black cockade, also over green. The visor has a few very minor creases in it, common on this type of cap. The interior is fully lined in reddish-brown cloth which has moderate discoloration from use. The lining is stamped with the maker’s name, J.R. Mol, Breda and with the size, 57. A near excellent example of a desirable wartime modified cap!
