WWII German Air Gunner’s and Flight Engineer’s Badge-(Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordschützen u. Bordmechaniker) by Wilhelm Deumer This badge was instituted on 22 June 1942 and had the same criteria for award as the Radio Operator/Air Gunner Badge. On this example, the wreath retains most of the silver finish. The eagle is missing most of the finish, having just minor visible wear. The eagle is quite secure to the wreath. The reverse features a sheet metal hinge, a needle pin and a flat wire, “C” shaped catch. The pin is very stiff, most likely not having been manipulated in years! I was however able to open and close it, a little lube may be in order. The center of the eagle is marked “W. Deumer Lüdenscheid”. An above average example of a desirable badge!
