WWII U.S. Purple Heart Grouping 36th Infantry Division G.I.-A very sad but neat grouping. The G.I. is Glenn C. Wellington from Michigan. Includes a wartime Purple Heart medal in its case of issue, his dog tags with a chain, his ribbon bar which has his Purple Heart ribbon with oak leaf cluster and ETO ribbon w/2 battle stars, his Sterling combat infantry badge, a nice OD border 36th ID patch, rifle qualification badge, a small folded US flag and his Ruptured Duck lapel pin. Also included are several newspaper clippings, including one of his death by drowning in 1956. One of the clippings mentions that he was wounded in Italy and again 9 days after D-Day in Southern France. (So, August 24, 1944.) Two wounds would explain the oak leaf cluster on the Purple Heart ribbon. Also includes wartime family portraits (with negatives) and the sign-in book from his funeral which is chock full of attendees. A wonderful but sad grouping for one of our many heroes!
