Engraved Japanese Shell, US Navy "U.S.S.-L.S.T. 1.9."-Wow! This is a GREAT piece! It is a WWII Japanese shell that measures 12 1/2" tall with a base diameter of 4". There are lots of Japanese markings on the bottom. This was a souvenir that was treasured! A GI added a metal US Navy eagle and a lot of writing that starts with "U.S.S.-L.S.T. 1.9." and is followed by "Commissioned Pittsburg Penna 4-29-43". This of course is a "Landing ship, tank". This is followed by a long list of areas that the ship went to. The list is as follows: Kodiak, Adak, Kiska, Pearl Harbor, Wallis, Apamama, Tarawa, Makin, Canron, Funa Futi and Nukufetau. This is followed by the name Howard K. Heath. This is an amazing piece of US Navy history!
