Cased Order of Azad Hind by Rudolf Souoval; First Class Star-This is a pin back star, marker marked "RUDOLF SOUVAL - WIEN VII," in silvered tombak, partially gilded, with the head of a tiger separately attached (as it should be on original war time examples). It measures 60 x 60 mm, in extremely fine condition. The case is produced in reddish brown, pebbled leatherette. There is minor wear to the exterior. The upper lid has a gilded tiger outline. The compartmented lower interior is lined in purple fleece. The upper lid is white rayon with the Rudolf Souval maker information in black ink. The Azad Hind decorations were instituted by Subhas Chandra Bose while in Germany, initially for Azad Hind Legion, to be awarded for gallantry in the field of battle. Both Indians and Germans were eligible for the decorations. Later, the same awards were instituted by the Azad Hind government for the Indian National Army during its campaign in South-East Asia. A scarcely found decoration in excellent condition!
