WWII Japanese Kure Naval Arsenal Barracks Flag-This is an incredibly rare find! The Kure naval arsenal is where battleships like Yamato were built. This is a barracks flag from one of the buildings at the arsenal. There is a letter from a gentleman that purchased it at auction a long time ago. It says that the son of the veteran who brought it home was present at the auction and that he spoke to him after the sale. The son said he was a teen during the Japanese occupation and that his officer father had procured the flag while stationed there. He could not remember exactly where he got it from. The kanji is translated and this is included. The gentleman that bought it at auction wrote a description:
A very rare WWII Japanese Naval Barracks flag. This is an important second world war Japanese Barracks flag from Kure Naval Arsenal. It is all silk, edged with metallic thread banding and silk tassels. The inside corners are reinforced with leather. Only some of the original gilding on the corners remain. The metallic thread runs through the knotted silk border of the beautiful ceremonial flag. One side is sun damaged and the stitching on the center of the flag is worn. For its age and provenance, it is in nice condition. The silk is in good condition and it displays well. It measures 36" by 40". A fantastic piece!
