U-130  Weimar Period Transitional Model 1936 Type Private Purchase Service Tunic Named to a Army Panzer Leutnant (2nd Lieutenant)
Tailor made in a soft, quality cloth in a darker shade of field grey in an approximate size of 36. There are a few areas with minor mothing and discoloration, these are very minor and do not detract from the overall look of this example! This transitional tunic is very similar in style to a Model 1936, the main exception being that the lower pockets are internal and at an angle . The dark green wool collar, which shows evidence of a repair (see photos), has subdued silver aluminum flat wire Officer's tabs. These litzen have twin pink twist cord stripes per side, the Waffenfarbe of Panzer personnel. The base is a green felt. The sew- in shoulder boards, with the same pink piping, have a matte grey aluminum flat wire thread and a gilt metal letter “P” cipher, which has toned. It appears that these were replaced by the tailor during an upgrade in the owner's rank. We are therefore confident that this was done during the period, and before 1945. The breast eagle is a bright silver aluminum flat wire example over a field grey background. We believe the eagle is original, but was collector applied, as you can see stitch holes on the interior where a different eagle once was. The backing is a green felt. This is a six- button front and all the buttons match, and are pebbled aluminum finished in a field grey. The buttons for the shoulder boards are smaller and are also a good match. The buttons on the reverse, which are finished like the ones for the boards, do double duty as a belt support. There is a single set of award loops on the left breast pocket, as well as a ribbon for an EK II through the second button hole from the top. The interior is fully lined in a green rayon, with white rayon lining the inner sleeves. There is some minor discoloration, as well as a few nips/bites to the interior cloth. The single interior pocket contains a tailor’s label, indicating it was made by Mohr & Speyer, Köln. The owner is identified as Herr Krftf. Niezoldi, and it is dated 8.2.35 (February 8, 1935.) Also included is a tailor added dagger slot, this is in a blue/grey cloth that that happens to be made in Luftwaffe grey. The tailor obviously used what he had! Also, there is a waist belt with plated metal buckles. A very intriguing example and priced attractively!
