U-122a Army Model 1936 Officer’s Service Tunic
for a Smoke Troops Oberleutnant (1LT)
An excellent example of a private purchase tunic in a light shade of
field grey. The tunic is on the smaller size, approximately a 36. The nap of the trikot wool is very short, giving the tunic a nice
soft feel. I spotted two absolutely tiny areas with tracking, trust me I really
had to look to find these, they are so small! Otherwise, this is a gem! The dark
green badge cloth collar has an excellent pair of Officer’s collar tabs, in a
matte silver aluminum flat wire, with a pair of purple piped litzen hand
embroidered onto the dark green badge cloth backing. This Waffenfarbe is
repeated as the piping on the sew-in shoulder boards. It is for Smoke Troops (Nebeltruppen).
This is for an Oberleutnant (1st Lieutenant) as evidenced by the addition of a
single metal pip to each matte silver aluminum flat wire faced board. The hand
applied Officer’s bullion breast eagle is stunning with its bright silver
highlights! All of the buttons match, and are a grey finished pebbled aluminum
with the manufacturer’s mark “St&L” on the reverse. The interior is
fully lined in a green rayon material, with the inner sleeves lined in a white
rayon with grey stripes. There is a single inner pocket, which appears to have
had a tailor label inside at one point. There is a dagger slot and hanger with a
plated metal hook. There is a minor amount of discoloration/fading to the upper
neck area, otherwise this is an excellent example in a scarce branch color - for
Smoke Troops!
