U-100 Nicely Restored Luftwaffe Service Tunic Named
to a Medical Major (Oberstabsarzt)
This high quality, approximate size 38 tailor made service tunic is
produced in a very soft Trikot wool blend. Its color is a medium hue of
Luftwaffe blue/grey. The overall condition of the tunic is near excellent, with
only some slight discoloration throughout keeping it from being excellent. The
front and lower edge of the collar is piped in a grey aluminum twist cord, this
is repeated around the edge of the cornflower blue collar tabs. The Officer’s
tabs feature a single gull with wreath made from a grey aluminum thread. These,
along with the slip-on style shoulder boards, are original pieces that have been
nicely collector attached. Speaking of the shoulder boards, they are produced
with a silver aluminum flat wire on a cornflower blue underlay, each one
containing a gilt metal aesculapian staff emblem (staff and serpent emblem). The
Officer’s breast eagle, which has been nicely hand applied but we feel is
collector done, is made of a grey aluminum thread with bright silver highlights.
Each wing tip has a few displaced threads, but it is sound otherwise. Each of
the silver pebbled aluminum buttons is manufacturer marked “Overhoff & Cie”
and “20 ½ M”. The interior is fully lined in a purple rayon, with a
white/grey striped rayon lining the inner sleeves. The tailors label appears in
the neck area, stating that the tunic was produced by the firm of “A.
Berger jun. & Co. Hoflieferanten” in Potsdam. The inside of the inner
pocket, on the left (as worn) side, the tailor has affixed a white label with
the owner’s information. I cannot decipher the individuals name (it is written
in Sutterlein), maybe you can! I can tell you that the date listed on the label
is 7-IV-1942. The slot for the dagger hanger is present but not utilized on this
example, it is sewn shut. There is also a waist belt with plated metal buckles.
Overall, an excellent named Officer's Service Tunic in one of the scarcer branch
colors.
