U-076 Incredibly Rare Model 1940 SS Camouflage Smock
When is the last time you saw a real example of this type of smock
available on the open market? This salty, battle-worn example is in the
plane tree pattern reversible of course from summer to fall colors. The
vertical side pockets (hand slits) have the number "5" in the block on
one side (left) and the number "6" in the block on the other side
(right). The colors are a bit faded but still quite vibrant. There
are the usual “field repairs”, especially in the pocket area. There is
one repair about 7” in length above the left pocket and another about 3”
long below the right pocket flap. There are also some pulls in the skirt
area. I do not know when these repairs were made but they certainly show
vintage. These are more evident on the fall side. The summer side
displays very well. The eyelets have the closely stitched reinforcements.
The elastics in the waistband and both cuffs are intact and are still quite
springy. The drawstring is a post-war replacement. I was very
pleased to get my hands on this very desirable SS garment! Take a look at
the pictures and see if you share my enthusiasm.
