H-198  Model 1935 Double Decal Waffen-SS Helmet, was Allgemeine-SS
Well, where do we start with this amazing helmet? Where did it start would be a more accurate question! Who knows what it was originally, as we know these Allgemeine-SS helmets came from many sources. What we can tell you is that it was reissued at with a satin black finish for the Allgemeine-SS, then given a green finish (remaining 70% intact) during a reissue once again for the Waffen-SS. What a story this one could tell! The original green finish is visible on the interior at the top of the dome. The black finish shows through where the Waffen green finish has worn off, as well as around the linerband on the interior. Let’s just say that this one most likely gained a few pounds due to all of the extra paint! As with many reissues, the decals are of C.A. Pocher manufacture. The Runic shield remains a respectable 70% intact, while the Party shield remains nearly 90% intact. The interior has its original brown leather size 57 liner that has some moderate discoloration and minor wear. The leather has the embossed markings in the circle from the maker that also has the shell and liner size. This is a characteristic that tells us, for sure, that this is the original leather that has always been with the helmet!
There is a drawstring and a non-reinforced aluminum linerband that is maker marked, size marked and dated 1936 (wicked early!). The side of the interior is stamped “ET 64” indicating this was produced by Eisenhuttenwerke in Thale in the size of 64. The rear of the skirt is stamped with the steel lot number “2840” indicating this was produced some time early in 1936. The size of the liner is written in pen at the rear of the skirt, presumably for easy identification, as “57”. A brown leather chinstrap with aluminum fittings is included as well. This shows some moderate wear but is fully intact. This is a type of helmet you buy in any condition!
