S-076  Extremely Rare Luftwaffe Observer’s Watch
Extremely hard to find, these watches were worn over the flight suit, and so the leather strap is quite long and wide. The strap shows wear with the normal surface stress cracking, and some flaking to the originally semi-shiny dark brown leather surface. The wear is heaviest, of course, around the area of the watchband pins. There is some oxidation on the fine diameter buckle, but it still functions. The watch is in very good condition with hardly any scratches to the glass; the dial shows no fading, the timer still functions – only some of the beige paint has worn off the minute hand, otherwise the piece is excellent. The case appears to be made of a dark grey metal, in fine condition with no sign of any oxidation. The rear is marked “H5441” and there is a purplish-red ink stamp that notes “BA11442” and below this, “Juin 1943” – the month is not in the German form, so the watch may have been produced in an occupied country. Altogether a very neat and extremely rare item!
