M-017a Early Luftwaffe Flugzeugführerabzeichen
(Pilot’s Badge), Manufacturer Marked BSW
Active military personnel who qualified for and received a military
pilot’s license were awarded the Pilot’s Badge (not authorized without the
military license – the man could fly with a civilian license, but did not
receive the badge). This early tomback example is a fine one, with the superb
detail usual on the pilot’s badge – a very crisp strike. It has a very
evenly toned nickel finish, which remains approximately 97% intact throughout,
with a moderately darker finish to the eagle. The reverse of the badge is in
nice shape, and shows rivets with fairly rounded heads along with the cloverleaf
trademark, with the initials BSW, of Bruder Schneider A.G. The pin is slightly
bent. Very nice piece, in excellent condition!
