M-017 Luftwaffe Flugzeugführerabzeichen
(Pilot’s Badge), Manufacturer Marked “BSW”
Active military personnel who qualified for and received a military
pilot’s license were awarded the Pilot’s Badge (not authorized without the
military license – the man could fly with a civilian license, but did not
receive the badge). This later zinc example is near excellent, retaining
excellent details! The highlights of the eagle itself are a bit darker overall
than the rest of the badge, giving it a very handsome appearance. Much of the
original finish of the wreath, as is typical of a zinc badge, is missing. The
reverse of the badge is marked with the motto of the manufacturer, Bruder
Schneider A.G., which is the initials BSW inside a clover. The eagle is securely
fastened to the wreath, and the rivets are the small ones typically found with
this manufacturer. The needle pin is near excellent, retaining a majority of its
original silver finish. A great example in near excellent condition!
