D-202   Letter from the Reichssportführer Hans von Tschammer
Von Tschammer and Osten was a SA-Gruppenführer and Commander of the SA Group “Center”.  Appointed in 1933 to the position of Reichs Sport Leader (i.e. National Sport Leader), and also filled the position of Chief in the Sports Section of the Kraft durch Freude organization. Tschammer eventually shut down the DRA, instituting the DRL in its, which was then re-named into the NSRL in 1938. He promoted athletics as a high Nazi ideal, and brought pressure on businesses and organizations to increase their demand for athletic proficiency as a requirement for securing a job, and similar actions. Von Tschammer died in Berlin in 1943, of a lung inflammation. This 1939-dated document thanks another council member named Luther for his gift of a “White Book” that apparently provided a summary of documents exchanged between the UK and Germany in the days just prior to the outbreak of the War – which  (v. Tschammer felt at least) proved the notion that Britain held the sole guilt for the start of hostilities. This document is on letterhead which measures nearly 12” by 8” (A4 paper size) and has “Der Reichssportführer” printed on it with an embossed political eagle. The original von Tschammer signature is very clear. There is some age yellowing to the outer edges of the document, a vertical center fold, and a two-hole punch along the left edge. Nice piece!
