Promoting Hauptmann Freiherr Friedrich August von der Heydte, The Famed
Leader of the 6th Parachute Regiment at Normandy, to Major
This 20 June 1944 telegram, labeled as “Geheim”
(“Secret”) recommends per the Commander of the Fallschirm-Armee-Oberkommando
(High Command of the Parachute Army) that von der Heydte be expediently promoted
from Hauptmann (Captain) to Major (Major) for his exceptional achievements in
battle at the Invasionsfront (Invasion Front). This lot include a
large 8.5” by 11” glossy copy of a picture of von der Heydte.
